Oct 29 – Remembrance Sunday Arrangements Announced

Her Majesty The Queen has approved that Sunday 8th November will be observed as Remembrance Sunday. This year, as last year, the Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at the British War Memorial on Line Wall Road, opposite City Hall, at noon. The Government of Gibraltar, which organises the ceremony, has committed itself to returning the Ceremony to the Cross of Sacrifice once the airport tunnel is in use.

Her Excellency the Governor, in her capacity as Her Majesty The Queen’s representative in Gibraltar, will lead the service.

On her arrival, Her Excellency will read the Bidding. This will be followed by the observance of the ‘Two Minutes Silence’, the beginning and end of which will be signalled by a saluting gun. The Last Post will be sounded, after which wreaths will be laid and an inter-denominational service will be held. The Ceremony will conclude with the sounding of Reveille and the singing of the National Anthem.

Medals and decorations may be worn with civilian dress by all those entitled to do so. The medals of deceased Services personnel may be worn by relatives.

Although the ceremony starts at 12:00, members of the public may wish to be in position by 11:30. Persons or organisations, who have pre-ordered the official wreaths from Mr Solomon Levy MBE JP, may collect them from The Convent (rear), from Monday 2nd November to Wednesday 4th November from 10:00am until noon. The cost of the wreaths is £25.00. Cheques should be made payable to “The Gibraltar Poppy Day Appeal Fund”.
