May 05 – Unite And ERG Join Forces In Civil Society Awards

The Equality Rights Group (ERG) has said that the Independent Civil Society Awards event will this year be expanded to become a collaborative, joint project between ERG and Unite the Union.

“The concerns and interests of our respective organisations are significantly mutual in so many ways,” ERG Chairman Felix Alvarez commented.

“It not only makes a great deal of sense for Unite and ERG to join together in this endeavour, but also to work into the future to strengthen and enrich independent civil society in Gibraltar.”

The Awards were established by the ERG in 2013 to recognize and acknowledge the work of groups and individuals in the field of independent civil society, and, in particular, to highlight contributions made to equality, human and civil rights.

Speaking for Unite the Union Gibraltar, Victor Ochello, Regional Officer, concurred and added: “Cooperating on issues of social justice and solidarity across our Community is central not only today to the work of Unite the Union, but has always been a focus of trade unionism. As a modern Union, we too, welcome the joint focus this work between our respective organisations signifies, in the interests not only of all our members, but of Gibraltar as a whole.”

This year, all plaques will be awarded under the joint logos of both ERG and Unite the Union. The event takes place on Thursday, 12th May at the Garrison Library from 10.30am and members of the public are welcome to attend.
