May 31 - Emergency Response Driving Courses For Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Services Staff

The Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service’s (GFRS) operational crews will be involved in emergency response driving (ERD) courses throughout the month of June.

These courses are built upon an organisational commitment to ensure a safe, efficient and professional Service to Gibraltar's Community through the development of our people.

The awareness courses are being delivered by ERD instructors and aims to develop officers’ situational awareness when driving and responding efficiently to incidents under emergency conditions. An essential module within this programme is the “Systems of Car Control” and primarily trains delegates on ways of approaching potential hazards that is methodical, safe and leaves nothing to chance. This is divided into five key phases, information, positioning, speed, gear selection and acceleration.

The completion of this course will provide the organisation with skilful drivers, able to rapidly and accurately perceive information, swiftly choose an appropriate response and accurately execute the chosen response.

The Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service would like to inform the public and other road users that throughout the month of June there will be an increase of Fire Service appliances/vehicles on our roads with visual and audible warning devices, “blue lights and Sirens” extensively used.
