Sep 23 - Gibraltar Marks World Peace Day

The message of world peace was once again shared on the Rock as the Integral Yoga Centre held a World Peace Day event at Boyd’s earlier this week.

World Peace Day is an initiative by the United Nations which encourages people worldwide to cease hostility and commemorate peace through education and public awareness.

Here in Gibraltar, the occasion was led by MC Meera Aswani and featured a number of guest speakers including the Minister for Culture Steven Linares and GSD MP Elliott Phillips. Other speakers included Dr Geraldine Canepa, Rachel Tobelem, Peter Mifsud, former teacher Julio Alcantara and Daya Dewfall.

The guest speakers shared their own personal quest for peace in their everyday lives, be it at home or in a professional capacity, or even within themselves.

One Light performed on the day, chanting Sanskrit mantras for peace, and there were performances from Danza Academy and a poetry reading by seven-year-old Krsna Gulraj.

Just before the event ended with a candle ceremony, Nalanie Chellaram, Chairwoman of the Integral Yoga Centre in Gibraltar, gave thanks to everyone involved in putting together the event.

Nalanieji said: “We hear so much negativity all the time that it is just great to focus on the many positive moments, that are full of hope and joy.

“As humans we all need to be so much kinder and more caring. Our world needs so much love. Please spread your Light with all.

“And as my master Sri Swami Satchidananda would say ‘Let us walk together, laugh together after all truth is one, paths are many’.”
