Feb 07 - Royal Marines 350th Anniversary Gibraltar Rock Run

In order to celebrate and honour 350 years of the Royal Marines, 350 Marines will carry out the annual Rock Run on October 24^th 2014. The weekend will include a number of festivities set to celebrate the Corps’ birthday including brunch at the naval base, a lunch with the Governor and a prestigious birthday party at the Khaima.

The run will begin in Casemates Square and end at the top of the Rock. The team aims to raise £6 million for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, which will help Marines who have been wounded in Afghanistan.

Organiser Alan Hardy explained that there had been a great deal of interest from Gibraltarians, in the run up to the launch. The run follows a total of 2.7 miles. The run is carried out at a smaller scale almost every time a Royal Navy ship docks in at Gibraltar.

Commenting on the event, Alan Hardy explained, ‘as a third generation Royal Marine in my family, I am keen to support my ex- colleagues in whatever way I can and would ask that you join me in giving every support to this challenge to help ensure the success of the Rock Run in raising funds for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund’.

Locals are encouraged to participate in the run, as well as raise funds for the Gibraltar Diamond Jubilee Trust Fund. The group hopes to raise almost £1 million during the weekend events. To get involved, call Alan Hardy on 0044 1392 272842.
