Jul 22 - Increased Accessibility For All Beach Users
Specialised equipment is now available at Catalan Bay for beach users with restricted mobility as part of an interministerial project to make Gibraltar’s beaches easier to access for all users.
The new unit houses a selection of transportation devices, a hoist, crutches and life vests and will be staffed full time by a Beach Accessibility Attendant. Ministers Neil Costa and Samantha Sacramento said they were very proud of the outcome which would significantly improve the lives of many people who simply could not visit the beach previously.
Another improvement to Gibraltar’s beach facilities is the introduction of handles, a hoist and an adult changing bed in the changing rooms which will allow carers or family members to help people with disabilities change into their beach wear.
Today also saw the return of the highly effective jellyfish booms which were first used last year.
