Aug 28 - Levanter Breeze Ends Record-Breaking Heatwave

Although a low levanter cloud and incoming fog from the sea are seldom welcome sights on the Rock, this afternoon’s light easterly breeze has brought an end to a mini-heatwave which saw temperatures soar to 33.9C yesterday, the warmest so far this summer.

The wind change means that temperatures are expected to remain under the 30C mark today and the forecast for the next few days indicates that the cooler easterlies will continue to dominate.

Inland areas in neighbouring Andalucía are, however, once again predicted to hit highs of around 40C this afternoon. Authorities in Spain are warning the public about the increased risk of forest fires.

A blaze which started last night near Sotogrande was brought under control earlier this morning. Here’s our report: http://www.yourgibraltartv.com/society/7342-aug-28-fire-in-san-roque
