Sep 30 - GONHS Hosts EuroBirdwatch 2014

birdwatch 2014 EuroBirdwatch - BirdLife’s biggest birdwatching event in Europe and Central Asia - will take place this year on the weekend of 4-5 October. The Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society (GONHS) is the BirdLife partner organisation in Gibraltar and will be organising an event to celebrate EuroBirdwatch this year, as it does every year.

The public is invited to join GONHS at the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens on the morning of Saturday the 4th of October to enjoy bird ringing, moth trapping, the highly popular bird of prey display by our Raptor Unit and hopefully watching some bird migration.  Participants wanting to attend the bird ringing session are advised to arrive early (no later than 9am) as this activity usually ends by mid-morning due to the sun making the mist nets visible to the birds, which then avoid these.

There will then be a seabird watch at Europa Point as from 3pm.

Created in 1993, EuroBirdwatch aims to give the opportunity to the youngest as well as the oldest, to confirmed nature lovers as well as the simply curious, to observe the unique migration of birds and to promote efforts to save threatened bird species and their habitats.  As they have done every year on the first weekend of October since its inception, BirdLife national Partners across Europe and Central Asia will, like GONHS, be organising a wide variety of activities and events.

GONHS has organised events every year for 21 years.
