Oct 01 - Energy Efficiency Campaign Urges Gibraltar to Save Resources

energy efficiency Despite the wind and rain, today kicked off the Department of the Environment’s ‘Energy Efficiency Campaign’, a 12-month long strategy to increase the Rock’s public awareness on saving water and energy. Sera Fromow, the Department’s Energy Conservation Officer was joined by fellow scientific officers Janine Galliano and Elaine Prescott in manning a stall at the Piazza this morning, informing passers-by on how they can conserve energy in their homes, as well as save money and boost Gibraltar’s economy.

The campaign will also include a television advert and a number of topical articles within local press, as well some other tricks up the Department’s sleeve.

Speaking to YGTV Sera noted that the primary aim of the initiative was to help the environment, but also teach the public how they can save resources and money. Commenting on why she believed many people still didn’t act on the growing issue of consuming fewer resources to save the planet, Sera noted that in Gibraltar we are very fortunate to have everything readily available to us and therefore people are less concerned about too much energy consumption. Many people only start to worry when issues come to light, she added.
