Oct 23 - HMS Kent to Make Rock Visit Ahead of Middle Eastern Deployment

hms kent This weekend, HMS Kent will call into Gibraltar as part of her six month deployment in the Indian Ocean, centered around maritime security operations in the area. The Type 23 Frigate will carry out an exercise in and around BGTW during its time on the Rock.

Launched on 27th May 1998 by Princess Alexandra of Kent, the ship ties in well with the recent visit of Prince Michael of Kent, last week, during which he carried out various military duties.

The ship’s deployment to the Middle East provides reassurance to the UK’s allies in the region, whilst conducting maritime security, counter narcotics and counter-piracy patrols to protect British trade and wider national interests.

The vessel will also visit a variation of continents on its journey, including Africa, Asia and other parts of Europe. Commenting on the visit, Commanding officer of the HMS Kent, Commander Andrew Block expressed his pride in his ship’s company ‘and all they have achieved preparing HMS Kent to deploy on operations East of Suez. This could not have been done without the support and commitment of our families and friends, very much members of team Kent.’
