Dec 05 - Amphibious Exercise On Eastern Beach Next Week

The UK’s Flagship, HMS BULWARK, will arrive in Gibraltar on Monday morning where she will carry out some boat transfers before heading out to anchor off Eastern Beach to conduct an Amphibious Training Exercise with RFA LYME BAY.

Commandos from Charlie Company, 40 Commando Royal Marines, and 4 Assault Squadron Royal Marines (ASRM) will take part in the Exercise known as ‘Sea Snake’. The Exercise will tests the unique skills required for amphibious operations and use specialist landing and offshore raiding craft, capable of carrying Royal Marines Commandos, heavy vehicles, tanks, as well as stores and supplies.

HMS BULWARK is currently deployed on Cougar 14, the routine annual deployment of elements of the UK’s Response Force Task Group (RFTG). HMS BULWARK sailed from Plymouth in August 14 to the Mediterranean and Gulf regions, demonstrating the Royal Navy’s capacity to project an effective maritime component anywhere in the world. HMS Bulwark is due to return to the UK later this month.

The Cougar 14 Task Group has worked closely with partner nations, enhancing interoperability, testing its flexibility, promoting the UK’s interests overseas, and demonstrating the Government’s long-term commitment to security and stability throughout the Mediterranean and Gulf Regions.
