Jan 23 - Large Fire At Old Casino Building
Shortly after 6pm yesterday afternoon, Police and the Fire & Rescue Service attended to reports of a large fire within the old Gibraltar Casino building on Europa Road.
Upon arrival, large plumes of smoke were seen emanating from windows on the third floor of the building. Firemen entered the building with breathing apparatus and tackled the fire which was concentrated in the northern part of the building, bringing the blaze under control shortly after.
A thorough search of the building revealed no persons within. Extensive damaged was caused to wooden wall panelling and paintwork within the building.
All traffic was temporarily diverted away from the area but normal traffic flow resumed shortly after.
A full investigation as to the cause of the fire is being conducted by officers of the Fire & Rescue Service Fire Investigation Team in conjunction with the RGP.
