Feb 18 - UK and Singapore Meetings Unveil Opportunities for Gibraltar University

university As developments for the University of Gibraltar continue ahead of its September opening, Education Minister Gilbert Licudi recently met with delegates of the Oxford Brookes University School of Hospitality and Business Faculty in order to ‘consolidate the existing relationship with the University’ and discuss further collaboration in the field of hospitality and tourism.

Travelling to Singapore, the Minister held further meetings with senior management of the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), an affiliate centre of the University of London, to discuss methods used by SIM to deliver International Programmes to over 9,000 students.

On his mission to develop opportunities for Gibraltar, the Minister was joined by the Gibraltar University’s Director of Academic Programmes and Research, Dr. Darren Fa. Further meetings were held with the President of the Hong Kong University, the Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Vice-President of International Affairs at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as with Hong Kong University’s Swire Institute for Marine Science. These meetings were organized by Gibraltar’s Hong Kong office.

Minister Licudi suggested that the meetings opened up significant opportunities for Gibraltar. He added, ‘It is vital for the University of Gibraltar to establish these links not just for the programmes we will deliver at the outset but to guarantee the development and expansion of the University in the future.’

The Minister discussed a programme of educational tours for secondary school and university students, affording them a cultural experience of the countries they visit. Gibraltar will host students and teach them English at the University, as well as cultural tours.
