Feb 20 - Volunteer Reserves Service Medals and Clasps Awarded

vrsmNewly appointed Chief of Staff for British Forces Gibraltar, Colonel Frank Green RE presented two Volunteer Reserves Service Medals. The VRSM is awarded after 10 years’ service in the Reserves in recognition of long and efficient service. A Clasp is awarded for each addition five years of service.

Sgt Daniel John Zammit was presented with his VRSM following ten years’ service. He joined the Royal Gibraltar Regiment in August 2004 as an infantryman. Following a stint in Section 2IC B Company, he was promoted to Section Commander and then Sergeant.

LCpl Nicholas Podesta was also awarded his VRSM, he joined the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Band in March 2004 as a musician. He is also a member of the regiment’s rowing squad and successfully competed at the tri-services championships winning gold in five boat categories. LCpl Podesta has attended numerous overseas camps with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Band to Morocco.

A VRSM 1st Clasp was presented to CSgt Brian Brosco who joined the RG Reserves in September 1986 as an infantryman. In June 2009 he was promoted to CSgt when he took up the appointment of SNCO in charge of the Recruit Training Team. He has since moved back to the Company and currently holds the position of CQMS.

CSgt Mark Hitchcock was also presented with a VRSM 1st Clasp. he joined the RG Reserves in April 1998 as an infantryman and since 2014 has held the position of Port Sgt.

Further recipients of the 1st and 2nd Clasp included CSgt Andrew Rowbottom, Sgt Jonathan Saccone, Sgt Orlando Vinas, Cpl Derek Perez, LCpl John Gonzalez and Mr Eliott Cohen.
