Feb 27 - Successful Training for Gibraltar Regiment Recruit

pte mcginnPrivate Conor McGinn, 18, is the latest Royal Gibraltar Regiment recruit to Pass Out at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick.

Private McGinn has done exceptionally well throughout his training and was awarded the prestigious title of ‘Soldier’s Soldier’ during his Pass Out Parade. The award often means so much to a young soldier because it is voted by the other recruits in his platoon.

Before joining the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Private McGinn was living in Marbella with his family, he said: “I joined the Army because I wanted a challenge in my life, the training was tougher than I thought it was going to be, especially the weather, but I have learned a lot about myself and realised that I can actually achieve the goals and ambitions that I set myself.”

All infantry soldiers in the British Army must complete a 26 week Combat Infantry Course which teaches the soldier a number of skills from war-fighting tactics through to ceremonial drill. It is designed to ensure that the newly qualified solider is fully prepared to join their chosen unit and is ready for operational deployment.

Commenting on his achievement Private McGinn said, ‘I’ve learnt about the importance of team building and working with others, I suppose the award is recognition of that and all that hard work has actually paid off.”

Pte McGinn will now undergo two weeks driver training before taking some well-earned leave before returning to the Regiment.
