Mar 02 - Captain Geary Appointed As Consultant For Gibraltar’s New Superyacht Facility

Ocean Village says it is pleased to announce the appointment of Gibraltar based Captain E. S. Geary as a consultant and technical advisor for the luxurious Superyacht Marina planned for Ocean Village’s Marina Bay.

Ocean Village says that Gibraltar is ideally located to attract and provide services to this ever increasing market. The number of large yachts under construction has more than tripled over the last 10 years. The developers say that Government in Gibraltar recognises the importance of this sector and has already abolished import duty for vessels over 18 metres.   Ocean Village says that if this proposed new Superyacht facility in Marina Bay was only 60% full, it could bring £75m into the local Gibraltar economy, a positive impact for everyone.

In recognition of the importance of this project to both Ocean Village and Gibraltar, Ocean Village has engaged Captain Geary, a naval engineer, who has broad and extensive experience in compliance requirements, marina design, construction and marina operations worldwide. A Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Captain Geary has written a number of in-depth articles on the subject of yachts both super and small.

Ocean Village says that having a RICS Chartered Surveyor accredited and qualified in admiralty and maritime to assist with the organization and planning aspects of the Superyacht Marina will not only ensure that all measures of an environmental nature are carefully addressed, but that proper designs of berthing, security, safety and shore-side facilities are in place to make Gibraltar and Ocean Village the port-of-choice for private Superyachts.
