May 28 – Gibraltar Women’s Association Vote In New Committee
The Gibraltar Women’s Association elected a new committee after the previous committee announced its decision to step down for personal reasons.
At the annual general meeting held last month, new committee members Yael Benady, Laura Correa, Marlene Dalli, Cathy Earle, Zohra El Gharbaoui Ariba, Rebecca Faller, Nadine Pardo-Zammit, Gerry Pitaluga-Lancaster, Anne-Marie Struggles, Tamsin Suarez, and Amber Turner were elected.
Next year marks 50 years since the GWA was formed, and the association is in the process of modernising its 49-year-old constitution, and drafting a new website which will be launched in the coming months, while planning events to mark the occasion.
The objectives of the GWA Committee are:
- To be a voice for women in order to protect the interests of our community.
- To actively promote gender equality so that women and men can shape our society in equal measure.
- To highlight and counter discrimination against women in Gibraltar.
- To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas between women and to create opportunities for collaborative endeavours.
- To promote and pursue philanthropic projects so as to empower others.
The incoming committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing committee for their sterling work and positive influence in shaping Gibraltar.
The committee would like to encourage everyone to access the Gibraltar Women’s Association Facebook page where they can share issues of interest. It is encouraging to note that since the last AGM the page has shown an increase in members from 540 to over 1,437.
