Jun 27 - A Busy Month Ahead For Gibraltar Basketball

The Minister for Sport, Steven Linares, has sent his best wishes to GABBA ahead of its participation in upcoming European competitions.

As is the case every summer, members of GABBA are bracing themselves for a busy few weeks of International competition. The Senior Men’s team leaves for Moldova on Saturday where they will face familiar opponents in Malta and San Marino and a very strong Irish National Team.

Over the course of the next few weeks the Under-18 Men and Women will travel to San Marino and Tbilisi, Georgia respectively with the Under-16 national squad also travelling with the Men in Nicosia, Cyprus and the Women in Andorra.

‘I am certain they will be worthy ambassadors for Gibraltar as is always the case,” said Minister Linares. ‘I wish them and all our travelling sides all my best wishes in their respective tournaments.’

The local focus then turns to the Senior Women who will be hosting the FIBA European Women’s European Championships 2016 for Small Countries in the Tercentenary Sports Hall starting tomorrow Tuesday 28th June with the opening ceremony at 5.45pm. Gibraltar welcomes the national teams of Ireland, Moldova, Wales, Andorra and Malta. Their efforts have been covered extensively in the local press recently and the general public are urged to fill the Tercentenary Sports Hall and to support Gibraltar’s girls in what the Government says “will no doubt be another example of how well we can host international events.”
