Oct 08 - Bruno's Magpies Announce New Head Coach Appointment

FC Bruno's Magpies have moved swiftly to fill the vacancy of Club Head Coach & are delighted to announce the appointment of Davey Wilson to the position.

Davey is well known & respected throughout Gibraltar football and is acknowledged as one of the leading coaches currently working in the Gibraltar game. Bruno's Magpies are excited to be welcoming Davey to the Club and look forward to his wealth of knowledge, experience, enthusiasm & passion for the game helping our squad of players improve and reach the potential we know they are capable of.

Glasgow born Davey's playing career saw him on the books of Kilmarnock becoming one of the club's first ever apprentice professional footballers. At 19 he decided to join the Royal Navy and during his time serving with them he continued to play, representing Worthing Town, Bashley FC & Newport Isle of Wight. Davey returned Scottish non league football before deciding to retire from playing.

In 2008, Davey's Navy career brought him to Gibraltar to serve as an Exercise Rehabilitation Officer. After becoming acquainted with Allen Bula, Head Coach of the Gibraltar National Team, he was named his assistant in April 2013.

Davey was on the bench when Gibraltar made their international debut in November 2013 against Slovakia. After Allen Bula was dismissed as Head Coach in March 2015, Davey was named Interim Head Coach beginning with the team's UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifying Fixture against his native Scotland at Hampden Park. Davey went on to take control for three International matches before the appointment of Jeff Wood.

Club Chairman, Louis Perry said “Appointing Davey is an exciting time in our Club's development. Being able to attract a Coach of his calibre makes a real statement of our intent and ambition. When I sat down and spoke with him and explained our plans for the Club I think he quickly realised the potential behind our project and I'm absolutely delighted that he has made the decision to join us to help steer us through this most exciting of times for Bruno's Magpies.”

Davey added “It's an absolute honour to be asked to assist Magpies in their challenge for making history. From the minute I sat with the Chairman I knew I would finally be involved with an honest whole hearted, club who see their one potential and are willing to drive as one to encapsulate it all. It makes it easy for us to step back into football when you have the support and enthusiasm this club is built on. This was not a hard decision, the hardest thing after hearing all about Magpies was letting my wife know my short lived retirement was ending! Now the serious business of managing an ever improving motivated squad starts and it's a challenge we all within the Club are looking forward to. Thank you to all that continually support the Magpies and we hope to continually keep you happy on the terraces and in the stands!”

Davey will be working with the Club's existing coaching staff but will also be bringing in a further Assistant Coach & Performance Analysis Coach to become what looks like a formidable coaching team.

We warmly welcome Davey to our Club and look forward to enjoying successful times together.
