Jul 24 - Summer Sports And Leisure Programme Junior Dog Handling
Today saw the first day of the long-running and consistently popular Junior Dog Handling Course. It was led by Elizabeth Gonzalez, an experienced dog trainer and judge at international dog shows. The day saw an introduction to basic dog handling skills and the teaching of simple commands, with future days in the course covering more complex skills.
The course ran from 11am to 12:30, with the young trainers learning to keep their dogs under control while in the presence of a number of other trainers’ dogs. Despite the heat of the early morning sun, all the trainers and dogs performed admirably, with plenty of shaded water breaks to keep cool.
The children from the GSLA’s Stay and Play programme also visited to interact with the handlers and their pets’ diverse range of breeds, an experience which they thoroughly enjoyed.
The Junior Dog Handling course will continue running on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th of July and Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th of August. The Summer Sports & Leisure programme is sponsored by NatWest
