Jul 07 - Gibraltar U-16s Basketball Team Face San Marino

Gibraltar is bracing itself for a fortnight of top quality junior basketball in the Tercentenary Sports Hall whilst the Under-16 men are away in San Marino in the equivalent Under-16 tournament.

The Minister for Sports, Steven Linares, who addressed the participating teams at the opening ceremony of the Women’s tournament last night wished both the Men and Women’s under-18 squads all the best in their respective competitions. He added that it is always a pleasure to host such events and welcome teams from abroad to Gibraltar and was certain that the tournaments would be a huge success.

With reference to the Under 16 Men’s participation in San Marino he also sends the team his best wishes adding that “Gibraltar yesterday participated in a historic event as official sources inform me that the GABBA Under-16 boys were the first team to face Kosovo in an official International competition for any sport. Gibraltar has once again been directly represented at a major international milestone adding to our long list of sporting achievements.”

The local tournament welcomes teams from Andorra, Malta, Scotland and Wales for the Women’s event with Andorra, Azerbaijan, Malta, San Marino and Wales travelling for the Men’s competition.
