Sep 18 - New Web Portal Outlines In-Depth Gibraltar Weather Conditions
A new web portal in Gibraltar will prove incredibly useful for monitoring temperatures and weather changes around the Rock’s multiple micro climates. The website, developed and launched by the Government’s Department of the Environment, can be found at www.gibmetportal.gi. The network correlates climate-relevant data monitoring wind speed and direction, temperature, rainfall, solar intensity and barometric pressure at a number of varied sites around Gibraltar.
The stations are located at the North Front cemetery, Bruce’s Farm, The Caleta Hotel, Rosia Road, Witham’s Road and Bleak House. Interested individuals can also use the portal to search through the archives for past meteorological data. Graphs provide a breakdown of a number of climate and weather related matters over certain periods of time, for example an individual could search for the range in temperatures over the 2014 Summer period to compare the hottest weeks.
A Government statement noted that the ‘dashboard styling of the portal provides a simple and clear layout with headline information on the front page as well as a dedicated download page with a data analysis section. A weather forecast service is also available that the public is encouraged to use.’
