Jun 15 Oil Spill Off Algeciras

  • Written by YGTV Team

Oil Spill AlgecirasThe Gibraltar Port Authority was this morning alerted on an oil spill off the Port of Algeciras. The spill was caused by a bunkering operation from the Cook Islands registered vessel ‘Fegulus’. The initial report suggested that 50 litres of oil were spilt, but a Government statement noted that the size of slick suggests considerably more.

Gibraltar’s Port Authority offered assistance to Algeciras, but it was refused.

The Authority has stated that most of the spill is contained in the area of Camp Bay and Europa Point. The Government has said that no effort will be spared to contain the oil which could potentially affect beaches and Marine life in Gibraltar.
