Spain’s Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy is expected today to ask UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, to join a revitalised bilateral process on talks over Gibraltar’s Sovereignty. It has been suggested that Mr. Rajoy will demand a constructive dialogue’ be reopened on the subject of Gibraltar.
Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel-Garcia Margallo has already informed the British Government of Spain’s wish to revive bilateral talks on Gibraltar, despite the Government’s response that they would not do so with out Gibraltar’s consent.
At the Partido Popular’s 17th National Congress in Seville, last Sunday, the party explained that sovereignty talks on Gibraltar were part of their foreign policy. ‘The recovery of Gibraltar’s sovereignty is not renounceable for Spain. There should be compliance with the United Nations mandate which call on UK and Spain to resolve their difference over Gibraltar. Spain should use every opportunity to put to the UK the retaking of talks for the recovery of sovereignty.’
