DJ Frank E

Eager to start, Frank-E started DJ’ing by organising his own events in the GASA clubhouse at the tender age of 16, with his friend Richard Camilleri (now bassist with Voodoo Monkey). Back then his sets consisted of commercial breakbeat for the masses of followers at the time. His desire to obtain a set list that no other DJ had lead Frank-E into producing his own original tracks.

This sparked Frank-E becoming influenced by a variety of music types including drum n bass, metal and even flamenco, and his sets began to take a heavier and darker tone.

Four years ago, when, as a regular at Rock On The Rock, Frank-E organised his own event together with SpinVox. The idea behind this being that if that crowd liked heavy metal, they might also enjoy heavy breakbeat and drum and bass. His original take towards producing music and the creativity of remixing breakbeat versions of metal tracks, is a skill that Frank-E mastered and these events unsurprisingly became very popular with the underground music scene.

Inspired by Dubstep whilst in the UK, Frank-E was a driving force in introducing the scene in Gibraltar which has taken off by storm. He now takes his productions to higher levels of darkness and creativity while also maintaining his DJ skills at a level that keep the crowds going wild. His sets which now consist of heavy Breakbeat, Drum n Bass, Dubstep, Drumstep, Neurofunk and even the occasional Moombahton keep the bass junkies in Gibraltar getting their fix. Frank-E also formed Sub-Selective consisting of fellow DJ’s Plata-44 and Re-Sorted, followed by Nu Era and Plata Jnr.

Frank-E now hopes to take Sub-Selective forward as a group, as well as release his own original tracks through record labels and, as a qualified primary teacher, he also hopes to bring DJ’ing to future generations.
