Oct 16 - Defence Secretary Visit Reveals New MOD Lands Agreement and Reaffirms UK Commitment to Gibraltar
Having met this morning with the recently appointed UK Secretary for Defence, Michael Fallon, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo announced that under agreements dating back to 1974, the MOD had transferred areas of land it no longer needs, to the Government, to use for commercial or community purposes.
A further Lands Agreement is to be considered and agreed upon in 2015. It is expected to include a commitment to transfer to the Government of Gibraltar a block of warehousing at the Naval Base and Fortress Headquarters at Rosia Bay.
The sixth novel in Sam Benady and Mary Chiappe’s Bresciano detective series was launched yesterday evening at the Fine Arts Gallery. ‘Death in Paradise Ramp’ is set in 1802 and sees the local detective try to solve a murder that took place four years before by relying on only a limited number of clues.
Miss Gibraltar’s 1st Princess, Kristy Torres, will be participating at Miss International Pageant 2014 that will be held in Tokyo, Japan in November.
A symposium entitled "Self-determination, devolution and independence in the 21st century" was opened by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia at the Garrison Library this morning.
