Feb 03 - Mayor Canepa Praises Chess Festival Growth

canepa Taking time out to visit the Tradewise International Chess Festival in its last week, Mayor Adolfo Canepa welcomed players to Gibraltar, commenting on the ‘exponential’ growth of the festival over the years. Launching today’s Masters round, which included Gibraltar player Stephen Whatley for the first time, the Mayor commented that he had never been one to play chess, despite being ‘a mathematician by profession’.

On the advice of the Judicial Service Commission and after consultation with the Minister for Justice, His Excellency the Governor has today sworn in the Right Honourable Sir Jonathan Parker (pictured below) and the Right Honourable Sir Maurice Kay (pictured left) as Justices of Appeal, in accordance with section 57(2)(a) of the Constitution.
