The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
Yesterday evening, Opposition leader Daniel Feetham’s New Year’s Message was broadcast on GBC television. The speech touched upon the fishing dispute as well as employment and education.
The speech, in its entirety, is as follows:
‘I hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable Christmas and New Year with your family and loved ones. Tonight I want to talk to you about some of the issues that I believe will be of vital importance to this community over the next few years.
Peter Lugnani, the RGP officer who was on trial for having allegedly raped two colleagues, was this afternoon found not guilty of all charges by a unanimous verdict delivered by a jury at the Supreme Court.
The Government maintains that the Opposition have again got their facts wrong over the case of the vulnerable person that they highlighted last week.
No 6 insists that the Opposition continues to raise the risk of accidentally identifying this vulnerable person to the public. A statement goes on to say that this is typical of the GSD’s behaviour, as they frequently ask for personal information in Parliament ‘showing that they care less about vulnerable people than they do about trying to score political points’.
