    A man was arrested at 07:40am this morning at a residence in the South District in  relation to a public enquiry regarding a data breach. The local man, 56, was arrested on suspicion of: 

    • Conspiracy to Obtain Unauthorised Access to Computer Material, Contrary to S362 Crimes Act 2011 & Crimes Act 2011.
    • Misconduct in Public Office, Contrary to Common Law
    • Unlawful Obtaining of Personal Data, Contrary to S175 Data Protection Act His arrest relates to a serious data breach.

May 22 - Improvements to the Beaches

catalanSaturday 11th May saw the start of the beach lifeguard weekend duty with 15 lifeguards having obtained their RLSS qualification. This service will complement the beach facilities, which have been open since 6th April and is in line with the commitment of the Government to roll out new services for the enjoyment of all beach users.

The Government said: “The Gibraltar Tourist Board is currently undertaking a refurbishment programme to ensure that the beaches and facilities are finished to the highest possible standard. As the public is aware, some works are still in progress and will be completed shortly; in particular, the works still being carried out at Camp Bay, Eastern Beach and Catalan Bay in order to provide improved accessible facilities. Further details on the accessibility project will be made public shortly in conjunction with the Ministry for Social Services and Equality.”

May 22 - Violence Against Customs Officers

custcarViolence was used against officers of HM Customs who disrupted a cigarette smuggling operation on Monday. The officers, on a routine patrol, saw two men running from the public area at Eastern Beach and through the restricted area towards the frontier fence. The officers gave chase and retrieved a number of bags containing a commercial quantity of cigarettes. The two men made good their escape by swimming around to the Spanish beach after discarding their bags.
