Oct 11 - Ellul-Hammond to Question Care Service During October Parliament Session

parliamentAt next week’s sitting of Parliament, Isobel Ellul-Hammond, Opposition Spokesman for Health, will be asking how the new GHA management structure will work, whether the Consultants’ Contract has been resolved and how the new GHA Complaints Process will work in tandem with the Ombudsman Service. 

Consideration of banning smoking in outdoor ‘eating areas’ will be asked for as well as an update on manifesto commitments for separate sex hospital wards and a Stroke Unit.  Mrs Ellul-Hammond will seek figures on those, while in the care of St Bernard’s Hospital, have been admitted to the ICU for dehydration and on how many in-patients pay for a private carer, independently or from one of the two private care providers, in order to attend to their basic needs of feeding and washing during their stay in the hospital.

Oct 10 - Figueras to to Probe for Details on Giraldi and Marrache Cases

parliament Opposition spokesman for Justice, Financial Services, Planning, Traffic and Transport, Selwyn Figueras, will be seeking updates from the Government at next week’s session of Parliament in respect of a number of matters.

In respect of the Justice portfolio, Mr. Figueras has sought details from the Government about the costs, so far and ongoing, of two of Gibraltar’s highest profile matters: the legal proceedings stemming from the collapse of the law firm Marrache & Co and, more recently, the Giraldi Enquiry.

Oct 10 - Regiment Association Bid Farewell to Governor and Lady Johns Over Dinner

rgraThe Royal Gibraltar Regiment Association (RGRA) held a farewell dinner for His Excellency the Governor Vice Admiral Sir Adrian Johns and Lady Johns at the Rock Hotel Rib Room Restaurant, recently.

Event organizer Bernard Graffione noted, ‘both His Excellency and Lady Johns have been very supportive of the RGRA during their time on the Rock and have visited the Association on numerous occasions. We wanted to give them a wonderful evening as a way to say goodbye and express our thanks’.

Oct 10 - Picardo Calls on Spain to ‘Stop Chasing Quixotic Windmills’ in UN Address

fabesAddressing the United Nations Fourth Committee yesterday in New York Chief Minister Fabian Picardo touched upon the notable 50th anniversary of former Chief Minister Sir Joshua Hassan’s speech to the Committee of twenty four, on the same issue, decolonisation.

Mr. Picardo was joined by Ministers Gilbert Licudi and Dr. Joseph Garcia, as well as a selection of A Level students, who he insisted, were chosen to attend the meeting because of their interest in the importance of the work of the United Nations.
