Apr 26 - Gibraltar Samaritans Donation
The Trustees of the Gibraltar Samaritans say that they were “grateful and humbled” that the sons of the late Maurice Xiberras chose to donate money collected at his funeral to the charity.
A statement from the Samaritans continued: “Maurice was a highly respected man in our community and admired by many, especially those of us who knew him personally.
“He will be sadly missed. Our sincere condolences to his family.
“We know Maurice would have been very supportive of the GibSams; that’s the kind of man he was.
“It was an honour for us to receive the donation in his memory from his son David, pictured in the photo presenting the cheque to Chairman Marielou Guerrero, with Maggie and David, who were here from UK for a weekend of training.”
David Xiberras said:
“I'm very pleased to present this donation to The Gibraltar Samaritans in our Dad's name. As a dedicated and gifted psychotherapist, he would have been very pleased to hear that a Samaritans service is launching in Gibraltar. Having the ready opportunity to talk confidentially when you are suffering emotional distress, for whatever reason, is key to dealing both with a crisis and managing one’s mental health day to day.
“As a family we'd like to thank those who attended Dad's funeral service and responded so generously to our request for a donation to The Gibraltar Samaritans and we wish them every success in their important work.”
