Sep 22 – CM Thanks Gibraltar Organisations For HMS Ocean Humanitarian Effort

Today at a reception held in No6 Convent Place, the Chief Minister, HE the Governor and Commander British Force all thanked the organisations who had donated materials to the humanitarian aid effort in the Caribbean and those who provided support to HMS Ocean earlier this month.

The following organisations / individuals were represented:

Royal Gibraltar Regiment, RGP, GHA, GDP, HM Customs, Housing Works Agency, GJBS, Morrisons, Monsignor Bear, Royal Gibraltar Post Office, 1st/4th Gibraltar Scout Group, Commissioner of Scouts, Portman Ltd, NATS, GibAir, GibOil, AFRS, Interserve, Interbuild, GibDock, St John’s Ambulance and Bassadone.

Mr Picardo said the operation was “a huge success story that demonstrates what it is that Gibraltar does best, whether in physical, military terms or from the heart in charitable terms.”

He added: “Gibraltar is the home of the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean – it is also the nation with the biggest heart in the Mediterranean.”

The Governor Ed Davis said the operation shows the significance of Gibraltar in terms of global Britain.

He said: “What HMS Ocean achieved through your generosity and hard work has reminded people that Gibraltar is an essential forward mounting base.”

The Commander of British Forces, Commodore Mike Walliker, said the effort demonstrated Gibraltar’s “great generosity, its heart and its practicality.”
