Dec 14 - Ocean Village Santa’s Grotto Raises Over £2,600 For Research Into Childhood Cancer

There was plenty of Christmas cheer around Ocean Village Gibraltar this festive season, when a Santa’s Grotto was held at O’Reilly’s over six days in aid of Research into Childhood Cancer - an incredible total of £2,651.35 was raised.

The festivities began with the official switching on of the Christmas Lights on the 27th November, which included a beautiful performance by the Prior Park School Choir and Someone Like Adele – Nikki Rae.

Many different Disney and cartoon characters joined in the fun, with Disney princesses Cinderella, Belle and Elsa with Catboy and Mickey Mouse wowing the excited children as they waited for their turn with Santa Claus. The last day of the Santa’s Grotto was held on the 6th December, and by that time the jolly fellow had seen over 350 delighted children.

Craig Sacarello of Research into Childhood Cancer said: “We are delighted with the amount raised this year by our Santa’s Grotto team at Ocean Village.  We would like to express our sincere thanks to Ocean Village for their continued support, in particular, to Emilia Hazell-Smith for her efficiency and professionalism in helping us arrange it all.  Thanks also to the Hunter Group for providing the venue for the Grotto at O’Reilly’s.  Lastly, we would like to thank all the families who visited Santa - we hope you all enjoyed yourselves!  On behalf of RICC, we wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas and all the very best for 2019.”

Emilia Hazell-Smith, Events and Social Media Executive for Ocean Village said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the amount that we have raised for RICC this year, as we smashed our previous years record of £1,400. Every year our Christmas event gets bigger and more popular. We would like to thank our brilliant sponsors, OV Express, O’Reilly’s Irish Bar, plus all the charity volunteers who have worked extremely hard and been so supportive and helpful. Seeing the children’s faces is so rewarding and we hope to spread even more festive fun next year!”
