Apr 20 - GPF Say Officers Acted Professionally While Dealing With Lazer Tag Case

The Gibraltar Police Federation says officers involved in the the Special Ops Gibraltar hearing held at the Magistrates' Court recently acted professionally, and is satisfied with the conditions imposed by the courts.

A statement from the chairman Henry Bautista reads as follows: "In a recent ruling by the Stipendiary Magistrate regarding a case of a business licence appeal lodged by Special Ops Gibraltar, the Gibraltar Police Federation would like to place on record that our officers involved in the case, at all times acted professionally, upholding their duty to the community and upholding Gibraltar’s interests, especially regarding continued safety and public rights.

"Given the current worldwide security climate we must be extra vigilant especially in these uncertain times.

"As an organisation, the Royal Gibraltar Police expects and indeed welcomes criticism from the public, however we are nevertheless disappointed that the petitioner chose to target and highlight individual officers involved via the social media when they were in fact doing their job on behalf of the Royal Gibraltar Police.

"We are satisfied with the judgement and conditions imposed by the courts ruling which clearly vindicate the officers and the stance taken by them. It was at no time the RGP’s intention to stop Lazer Tag games, as had been portrayed by the petitioner.

"Indeed, we welcome the advent of such pastimes particularly for the younger generation. However, it was felt that when it came to adults taking part in the activity, it was important to have a measure of control that reflected the current state of the world and threat levels with a view not to cause undue inconvenience to the public."
