Jul 04 – Moroccan Man Set To Be Deported After Eight Month Long Legal Wrangle

A Moroccan man who has been in custody for the past eight months after giving the authorities “false and misleading information” about his identity, will finally be deported.

The defendant, who appeared before the Magistrates’ Court via video link from Windmill Hill Prison this afternoon, will be deported to Morocco within the next 14 days.

The defendant asked Stipendiary Magistrate Charles Pitto if he could say something before he left, and parted with: “All of you present are part of a criminal organisation.”

Working together with their Moroccan counterparts, Gibraltarian authorities have established the man’s nationality and his identity. His family, who live in a village near Rabat, also confirmed who he was.

James Lennane appeared for the Crown while Patrick Canessa appeared for the defendant.
