Mar 02 - Man Charged In Cocaine Supply Investigation

A 25-year-old man has been charged with the Possession, Possession with Intent to Supply and Supplying a “Class A” drug, namely 60 wrappers of Cocaine weighing 39.47 grams.

Hitesh Mirpuri, of Peninsular Heights, was arrested yesterday following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Glacis Estate by Drug Squad officers in January last year, that resulted in the seizure of a total of 98 individual wrappers containing cocaine, minor amounts of cannabis resin and herbal cannabis, paraphernalia associated with the supply of drugs and a quantity of cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

At the time, 25-year-old Christian Joyce of Glacis Estate was arrested and later charged with the Possession and Possession with Intent to Supply. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to imprisonment for 1 year and 2 months on the 21st September 2017.

In connection with the same investigation, 24-year-old Dennis John Hurtado, was arrested and later charged with the Possession, Possession with Intent to Supply and Supplying a controlled Class A drug, namely 24.06grms of cocaine in 38 wrappers. His case is currently before the courts.

At the time of these two initial arrests, Hitesh Mirpuri was requested to provide buccal swabs, and the RGP says that the subsequent forensic examination in the UK has determined a positive match between Mirpuri’s DNA profile and the DNA profile extracted from 60 wrappers of cocaine (39.47grms), as a result of which he was arrested and charged yesterday. He appeared before the Magistrates Court this morning and the matter has been adjourned until the 27th April.

The street value of the total amount of cocaine seized by Drugs Squad officers in connection with this investigation is of approximately £6,000.
