Mar 19 - Customs Marine Crew Seize 750 Cartons Of Tobacco

Early yesterday morning, the HM Customs Marine Crew, supported by land-based officers, acted on reports of illegal activity near rocks by Emerson’s Place.

There they found two unidentified vessels suspected of being involved in illegal tobacco activity.

A spokesperson said: "Having seen the Customs officers, the vessels’ crews began evasive manoeuvres and a chase ensued. The first vessel, which appeared to be empty, reached Spanish waters whilst the HM Customs Marine crew successfully detained the second vessel and seized a total of 750 cartons. The two crew members evaded arrest by jumping ship and reaching Spain via the extended groyne of the La Linea marina. The vessel was towed back and investigations are continuing."
