May 23 - Drug and cigarettes seizures by HM Customs

Gibraltar CustomsOfficers of HM Customs arrested Spanish national Juan Manuel SANCHEZ Ordonez at the land frontier as he imported 18 grams of cannabis resin and a small quantity of herbal cannabis. The drugs were found on his person.

The 30 year old resident of La Linea was charged last night and released on bail to surrender this morning. He failed to appear and a court warrant for his arrest has been issued.

In a separate incident, a vehicle was stopped by HM Customs in Town Range; upon being challenged, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The car was searched and found to contain 50,000 cigarettes (250 cartons). Consequent to the investigation, a local man has been arrested and further enquiries are ongoing, premises of a retail tobacco licensee have been searched and subsequently sealed by Customs. The car and the cigarettes have been seized by HM Customs.
