Mar 04 - RGP Warns Public on Paypal Email Scam
A number of complaints have been received by the RGP regarding emails from online payment company Paypal. The emails refer to a payment made for an item to a random Paypal account.
The public has been informed that is a phishing scam email being sent in order to obtain account and password details.
The force notes that although internet phishing scams are fairly common, the Crime Prevention & Reduction Unit has requested that if anyone has received or does receive an email of this nature and can confirm that from their records they have not bought any of the items suggested, they are not to reply to the email. The email should be ignored and deleted. Members of the public are encouraged to be cautious and attentive when carrying out purchases using the internet.
