Jul 09 - Afghan Ministry Of Finance And Customs Officials Visit H.M. Customs Gibraltar

HM Customs Gibraltar hosted a high level delegation from the Afghan Ministry of Finance and Customs Department during the period 17-22 June.

The purpose of the visit was to evaluate HM Customs Gibraltar’s implementation of the UNCTAD Asycuda system and the development of e-government modules, to discuss common initiatives and legislation and to share experiences.

The Hon N F Costa MP, Minister for Tourism, Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port opened the conference and delivered a presentation on Gibraltar, followed by presentations from the Collector of Customs John Rodriguez, Mr. Constantin Ciuta UNCTAD Customs Advisor and Mr. Paul Siman UNCTAD IT Advisor. During the course of the conference, the Chief Minister also attended, welcomed the delegates and thanked UNCTAD for their continued use of Gibraltar as a training venue.

At the conclusion of the conference, Mr. Nicolae Popa, the UNCTAD regional coordinator for the Asycuda programme remarked that it had been an unqualified success and thanked HM Customs Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Government for their continued support.

The on-going development of ASYCUDA and other e-government modules in Gibraltar is in line with the Government’s initiative to establish Gibraltar as a Center of Excellence on ASYCUDA matters and has resulted in a number of training visits by other user countries with further visits already arranged for the immediate future.
