Jul 22 - Crime Down 18% In Gibraltar – GPA Report
Recorded crime has dropped by 18% according to the Gibraltar Police Authority’s Annual Report. The report covers the period from April 2012 to the end of March this year.
The figures stand as follows: 4,546 crimes were reported in 2011/12 but only 3,726 in 2012/13, representing a significant reduction. However, the detection rate for crimes, that is, the number of crime reports that result in someone being charged with an offence, fell from 66% to 59%.
Of particular note are a corresponding reduction in drugs offences and a drop in “opportunistic” crime such as low-level theft and criminal damage.
