Aug 08 - Local Man Gets 8 Month Sentence In Child Porn Case
Brian Torres was earlier today sentenced by Judge Barrington Black to eight months imprisonment after having pleaded guilty to one count of possession of indecent images of children.
The charge relates to 727 photos and 77 videos of child pornography which were discovered in Torres’ home computer after a forensic examination by the Royal Gibraltar Police.
Judge Barrington Black said that the majority of the images were classified at level 1 which means that they were considered to be of a less serious nature. There were, however, around 300 images classified at higher indecency levels. He added that many images clearly involved pre-pubescent children.
In sentencing Torres at the Supreme Court, Judge Barrington Black said that the harmful effects of offences of this nature could not be underestimated. He added that the possession of child pornography was not a victimless crime and that people who searched for and downloaded these images were “part of a chain” that supports an illegal trade that encourages the abuse of children.
