Sep 11 - Over 110 Kgs Of Cannabis Seized In Algeciras Port Over Past Two Days
A total of over 110 kilos of cannabis resin has been seized by Spanish authorities in Algeciras during the last 48 hours in separate operations targeting drug smuggling. The smugglers had all made the journey across the Strait from Tangiers or Ceuta on ferries. Five people have been arrested.
In one case, a truck was searched and found to contain over 20 kilos of the drug. Two private vehicles were also discovered to be carrying 86 kilos and 7.3 kilos respectively and, finally, a woman from Ceuta was arrested after she was found to be carrying cannabis strapped to her legs.
The recent seizures come at a time when the Spanish government insists that Gibraltar is a major hub for illegal activity and, in particular, drug smuggling.
