Oct 16 - New RGP Vessel To Be Named ‘Sir Adrian Johns’

When it arrives in service next year, the biggest vessel in the RGP fleet will be named ‘Sir Adrian Johns.’ His Excellency the Governor has already been presented with a copy of its name plaque, despite the fact that the vessel is still under construction in Croatia.

His Excellency was presented with the name plaque by the Chief Minister at a lunch of senior RGP officers. The officers also presented the Governor with a crystal glass timepiece as a farewell gift.

The new RGP vessel will be 26 metres long, large enough carry its own a RHIB, powered by an outboard engine. Importantly, it will have the capability to remain at sea for 3 or 4 days with its crew of up to six officers.

‘This will be yet another of this Government’s significant enhancements to the RGP’s marine capability and it follows the purchase of the two interceptor vessels and jet-skis.’ said Mr Picardo. ‘But on this special occasion, I am also delighted that Sir Adrian’s name will live on Gibraltar: it is fitting that ‘Sir Adrian Johns’ will continue to be a major player in British Gibraltar’s Territorial Waters for many years to come.’
