A host of guests have been announced by the organisers of Gibraltar’s first ever Comic Con – their third newsletter has all the details:

WOWZA! STAR WARS TURNS 40 THIS YEAR!

Fans of a Galaxy Far Far Away, this year we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original Star Wars: A New Hope at Gibraltar International Comic Con (GiCC) 2017.

The event this year will see a special panel celebrating the four-decade legacy of the franchise and we are proud to announce that the panel will be headlined by some very Special Guests:

RICHARD OLDFIELD - AKA - REBEL PILOT DEREK ‘HOBBIE’ KLIVIAN

Richard’s role as Rebel Pilot Derek 'Hobbie' KIivian in ‘Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back’. His character was immortalised via the release of an action figure in 2007.

Richard also served as Luke Skywalker's wingman during the defense of Echo Base, ejecting from his T-47 airspeeder just before it rammed the lead AT-AT.

Richard’s other credits include such roles as Brother Simeon in ‘The Final Conflict’, Captain Nathaniel York in ‘The Martian Chronicles’ and Pfc. Burford Puckett in ‘Yanks Go Home’.

NICK JOSEPH - AKA - ‘MAJOR ARHUL HEXTROPHON’

Nick appeared in ‘Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope’ as Major Arhul Hextrophon in the famous ceremony scene with Leia, Chewbacca, Luke and Han. Nick has also appeared alongside three Doctor Who’s (Tom Baker, Peter Davidson and Colin Baker) and in episodes of ‘Blake's 7’, as well as in the James Bond film ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’.

Here is a message from Nick to our Comic Con attendees & Star Wars fans:

‘Good Morning Gibraltar. I am so excited that you have invited me to your Fantastic Convention - I am looking forward to meeting you all & meeting New Star Wars Fans - this trip will be very special to me as it is 40yrs since the 1st Star Wars Movie ‘A New Hope’ - I am grateful that I was one of the 1st from this very Iconic Movie - I wish you all the very best for a successful event. TINA SIMMONS - AKA - ‘REBEL TECHNICIAN’

Tina Simmons is one of the actresses to portray characters for both Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment. She portrayed Rebel Technician in ‘Return of the Jedi’.

Tina also appeared in such much loved classics as ‘Superman III’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, ‘Mission Impossible’, ‘Die Another Day’, ‘A View to a Kill’, ‘The Living Daylights’ and ‘Octopussy’.

SANDEEP MOHAN - AKA - FIRST ORDER STORMTROOPER & SCARIF/SHORE TROOPER’

Sandeep has appeared in ‘The Force Awakens’ as a Nope Trooper and is also known for appearing in other major productions, such as ‘Fan’, ‘Rogue One’, ‘Prince of Persia’, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’, ‘Skyfall’, ‘World War Z’, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and many others.

Apart from appearing in major films, Sandeep has also appeared in a number of UK TV dramas and comedies, including ‘Sherlock’, ‘Luther I, II & III’, Keith Lemon sketch show, ‘Law and Order UK’, ‘Holby’ and many others.

Additionally, few years ago he has also made an appearance in a music video for one of Britney Spears songs, ‘Criminal’.

The celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars could not go ahead without the faithful soldiers of the 501st Legion.

This extraordinary international fan-based organisation dedicated to the construction and wearing of screen-accurate replicas of Imperial Stormtrooper armor, Sith Lords, Clone Troopers, bounty hunters, and other villains from the Star Wars universe will be celebrating the genre with GICC 2017 fans at this year’s Convention.

Since 1997, the 501st Legion spread magic of the Star Wars genre to its fans through their passion, dedication and authentic-looking costumes, thus becoming a force not to be reckoned with and we would not dare!

FROM NEW YORK TO SAN DIEGO & THIS YEAR GIBRALTAR INTERNATIONAL COMIC CON

Carlos Pacecho is a Spanish-born comic book artist and penciller best known in the United States for his work on such classic titles as Avengers Forever, X-Men and Green Lantern.

Carlos was first noticed in the United States for pencilling the title Dark Guard, working alongside inker Oscar Jimenez and writer Dan Abnett. He would later pencil the mini series Bishop for Marvel Comics and three issues of The Flash for DC Comics.

His next work within the United States was in the two part limited series X-Universe and the limited series Starjammers. By that point, Carlos’s art had become much loved and very popular amongst fans, leading to him working on multiple assignments for Marvel, DC, and Wildstorm.

Meet an artist whose work has appeared in more than 100 television commercials, films and music videos.

New York born Lance Tooks, co-editor of African-American Classics, began his comics career as a Marvel Comics assistant editor. Since then Lance has self-published the comics Danger Funnies, Divided by Infinity and Muthafucka, and illustrated The Black Panthers for Beginners written by Herb Boyd.

Lance’s first graphic novel, Narcissa, was named one of the year’s best books by Publisher’s Weekly, and his four-volume Lucifer’s Garden of Verses series for NBM Comics Lit has won two Glyph Awards.

He collaborated with Harvey Pekar on The Beats: a Graphic History and Studs Terkel’s Working, and has recently adapted tales by Mary Shelley and W. Somerset Maugham for the upcoming The Graphic Canon, from Seven Stories Press.
