Jul 10 - Bayside And Westside Drama Group Returns To Duncan Rand Festival

Bayside and Westside Drama Group will once again be returning to Medway Little Theatre in Rochester, Kent to take part in the Duncan Rand Youth One-Act Play Festival, their fifth time participating in the event. The group will be entering their productions of The Amazing Angel-Man and London, Madrid, Paris, Brussels And So On…, both original plays by group leader Julian Felice, which also featured in last March’s Gibraltar Drama Festival.

These are two very different pieces which reflect the versatility of these young actors. The Amazing Angel-Man, which was recently published by US-based company Eldridge Plays, tells the story of a young boy with Angelman Syndrome who, in his head, imagines himself to be the superhero from the play’s title. As the effects of the condition start to take their toll on the boy’s father, the real and the imaginary worlds start to overlap, leading to a heart-warming conclusion. For its part, London, Madrid, Paris, Brussels And So On… is a challenging and provocative piece that asks difficult questions about controversial issues such as terrorism, immigration and religion.

The group returns to the Duncan Rand Festival as defending champions, having won Best Play with its production of The Trial, as well as coming third in the same category with its second entry, In Jesus’ Name. In addition, the group won a further six individual awards, including Best Actor. The group hopes to add to its successful record of forty-one awards over the past five years.

In preparation for the event, the group will be holding an open dress rehearsal of both performances at Bayside Drama Studio tomorrow Tuesday 11th July. This will also coincide with the official launch of The Amazing Angel-Man, with book signings scheduled for 19:30 and performances commencing at 20:00. Entrance is free.

The group departs for the United Kingdom on Thursday 13th July and performs the following day before returning to Gibraltar on Sunday.
