Sep 19 - Felice’s Angelman Play To Be Performed In The USA
The Amazing Angel-Man, a play by local playwright Julian Felice, will receive its maiden performance in the United States next month.
The play, which won Best Original Play at last March’s Gibraltar Drama Festival before winning Best Play at the Duncan Rand Youth One-Act Play Festival in the UK, will be performed by Paulding County High School in Dallas, Georgia, on a four-night run, starting on the 25th October. This is the first performance of the play since it was recently published by Eldridge Plays, the third of Julian’s plays to be published by the company.
Inspired by a Gibraltarian family, The Amazing Angel-Man tells the story of a young boy who suffers from Angelman Syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder. Despite his physical limitations, the boy imagines himself to be a superhero called The Amazing Angel-Man. As the boy’s father increasingly struggles to accept his son’s condition, the imaginary world starts to overlap with reality, leading to a heart-warming conclusion.
This will be a busy autumn for Julian’s plays, with performances of his play Challenger: To Touch the Face of God in Georgia, Texas and Minnesota over the next few months. Challenger received its debut performance in Waco, Texas, last April. In addition, Julian’s group will soon start working on his two latest plays – La Calle Commedia and Layla – in preparation for the 2018 Gibraltar Drama Festival next March.
