Sep 22 - Gail Francis-Tiron Launches New Book

Children say the darnedest things, much to the amusement of their doting parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Mother-of-one Gail Francis-Tiron drew inspiration from her son Casey’s antics when he was a child and reached out to the community to put together a compilation of children’s stories. He is now 24 but Gail said he has a good sense of humour and didn’t mind his mum sharing his shenanigans with her readers.

Next Friday, Gail will be launching her second book, titled “Don’t you just love them?” and opening an art exhibition at 6pm at the Fine Arts Gallery in Casemates.

At the book launch, siblings Sophie and Max Povedano will be reading two stories each from the book, while Tanya Santini-McClelland will be introducing Gail to the audience.

Having taken seven years to complete her book, Gail describes it as a compilation of short true stories of the funny things children say and do. A keen painter and artist, Gail illustrated the book herself and the original artwork will be on display at the exhibition for a week after the book launch.

Speaking to YGTV, Gail said: “When my son Casey was younger, he was very hyper and he used to do and say such funny things and, as a single parent, I used to tell my friends and they’d laugh about it.

“When I had time to step back and look at it objectively, I’d see the funny side of things but I started writing these things down.

“For the book itself, I spoke to my mum and remembered things about my childhood myself, while also collecting stories from the community by asking friends and family while using the Facebook platform to reach out to others.”

The book has 25 chapters and features stories by contributors, with the first names of the adults, the children and their ages.

Gail, who works as the Tourist Information Manager at the Gibraltar Tourist Board, wanted to use this opportunity to inspire others to create.

She reads, she writes, she paints and she’s just overcome major back surgery, and wanted to use this book to show others how she managed, adding that it’s all about making your passion and your hobby a priority.

The book sells at £10 and will be available to purchase from Amazon, Gail’s Artist Facebook page, the Gibraltar Heritage Trust and Sacarello’s Coffee Shop. After Gail pays back the government grant loaned to her as an author, Gail will give the rest of the proceeds to charity.
