Stamps Launched To Mark 50th Anniversary Of Apollo 11 Moon Landings
The Government and the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau have issued a miniature sheet of six stamps to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landings.
A statement continued: “The 20th July marks the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landings. The whole world watched as this unprecedented achievement took place and paved the future for space exploration. To commemorate the moon landings, Gibraltar has issued a miniature sheet of six stamps. The stamps have been produced by Gibraltarian designer Mr Stephen Perera and portray the following sequence of events:
- 22p: Launch of Apollo 11
- 40p: Apollo 11 lifts off
- 64p: Apollo 11 lunar module in space
- 8p: Lunar Module at Tranquillity Base
- £2.18: Astronaut Buzz Aldrin's boot print in the lunar soil
- £3.40: Apollo 11 returns home
A special First Day Cover which features a sliver foil postmark has also been issued.
