Jun 09 - Special Museum Lecture

The Gibraltar Museum is offering a special lecture as part of this year’s spring festival. The lecture, entitled “Gibraltar, Neanderthals and World Heritage” will be given by Professor Clive Finlayson, Director of the Gibraltar Museum.

The lecture will describe the research which has been carried out in Gorham’s Cave over the past 25 years and how this has allowed us to understand the Neanderthals and their way of life in great depth. Using this research as starting point, Professor Finlayson will then go on to explain how the evidence from the caves and other parts of the eastern side of Gibraltar is permitting us to understand its outstanding universal value. This is then the starting point for putting together a nomination for World Heritage status and Professor Finlayson will go on to provide a detailed update of how this is being undertaken. With nomination expected in January 2015, the lecture will be a unique opportunity to be updated of the process. The lecture will be given next Tuesday, 10th June at 7pm at the John Mackintosh Hall and is open to anyone interested.
